In a proactive move to oversee the quality and distribution of food grains for public consumption, Satish Sharma, the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, ARI and Training, visited the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns in Jammu. The aim was to personally assess the storage facilities and ensure the provision of high-quality grains to consumers under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Quality Assurance and Inspection
During the surprise inspection, Minister Sharma meticulously examined the condition of the foodgrains stored in various sheds within the FCI premises. He emphasized the importance of proper segregation and the issuance of only top-notch grains to the public. The Minister also scrutinized the stock registers, records related to procurement and distribution, and visited the quality testing laboratory on site to evaluate the testing procedures for both fresh and stored food grains.
Commitment to Consumer Welfare
Satish Sharma reiterated the government’s commitment, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring food security for all households. He stressed the government’s priority of providing safe, nutritious, and high-quality food grains to the people. Any compromise in storage, handling, or distribution, he emphasized, would not be tolerated.
Enhanced Monitoring and Inspection
The Minister instructed officials to strictly adhere to quality control norms and prevent the supply of substandard or unfit food grains to the public. He urged the strengthening of monitoring mechanisms and the regular inspection of storage facilities to maintain the integrity of food grains from procurement to distribution.
Collaborative Efforts
Accompanying Minister Sharma during the inspection were senior officers from FCI and the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs. This collaborative effort highlights the government’s dedication to ensuring the quality and safety of food grains provided to the public.
