Empowering the Gurez Community
Gurez, nestled in the northern reaches of Bandipora district, has historically faced communication challenges due to its geographic isolation and harsh weather conditions. Despite being culturally rich, the absence of a dedicated local broadcast platform was felt until the inception of Shina Gilgit 88.8 FM.
With a mix of music, culture, information, and interactive talk shows, Shina Gilgit Radio resonates with listeners across the valley. Folk music programs showcase traditional Shina songs, preserving cultural heritage and providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talent.
The station’s talk programs encourage community engagement, address local issues, and promote cultural storytelling in the Shina language. By featuring Shina language storytelling, proverbs, and oral histories, Shina Gilgit FM educates the younger generation about their linguistic roots.
