The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) is currently facing uncertainty in declaring the results of class 10th to 12th examinations due to the absence of a chairman. The Result Declaration Committee, headed by the Chairman JKBOSE, plays a crucial role in finalizing the results and addressing any issues related to them. However, with the chairman position vacant, the outcome of the examinations remains unclear.
In December 2024, the J&K government reconstituted a search committee to recommend candidates for the positions of Chairman JKBOSE and Director Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). Despite holding interactions with shortlisted candidates in April 2025, no progress has been made in finalizing the appointments.
The delay in appointing a permanent chairman has left JKBOSE without proper leadership. Former Financial Commissioner Shantmanu, who temporarily managed the responsibilities, retired on December 31, 2025, further worsening the situation. As a result, the institution is currently headless, creating uncertainty surrounding the declaration of exam results.
The official expressed concerns about the timing of the vacancy, as JKBOSE was prepared to announce the class 10th exam results on January 6 or 7, 2026. However, without a chairman in place, the process has been stalled, jeopardizing the time-bound nature of result declaration.
Previously, JKBOSE had announced a 15% relaxation for students in the annual examinations of classes 10th, 11th, and 12th to account for the disruptions faced during the academic session. A significant number of students from various regions had registered for the exams, highlighting the importance of timely result announcements.
Despite the initial plans to release the results by the first week of January, the current situation has left officials clueless about the timeline. The implications of delayed results are significant, emphasizing the need for a swift resolution to the leadership crisis at JKBOSE.
Overall, the delay in appointing a chairman has put the declaration of exam results in jeopardy, impacting thousands of students awaiting their outcomes. The government’s intervention to address the leadership vacuum at JKBOSE is crucial to ensuring a smooth and timely release of results for the benefit of the student community.
