Kathua/Jammu Police Crackdown on Terror Networks in 2025
In a significant development, the Kathua district police in Jammu and Kashmir identified 39 overground workers (OGWs) and took strict action by booking 18 of them under the Public Safety Act during the year 2025. This move marked a major crackdown on terror networks operating in the region, as confirmed by a senior officer on Wednesday.
Presenting the annual crime report for 2025, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohita Sharma highlighted that four militancy-related cases were registered, leading to the arrest of seven individuals. Furthermore, two terrorists were successfully neutralized, enhancing the security situation in the area.
Speaking on the enforcement actions, Sharma stated, “A major crackdown was launched against terrorism-linked networks in Kathua district. We identified 39 OGWs and booked 18 of them under the Public Safety Act during 2025.”
One of the significant breakthroughs mentioned was in a drone-dropping case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The authorities seized 447 grams of contraband substance and apprehended eight individuals in connection with the incident.
Shedding light on cybercrime, the SSP disclosed that Kathua Police successfully recovered nearly Rs 4 crore, which was subsequently returned to the rightful complainants. Additionally, during the floods in the district, the police played a crucial role in rescuing 263 individuals, with collaborative support from other agencies.
Future Priorities and Technological Advancements
Looking ahead, SSP Sharma outlined that 2026 would be designated as the “year of technology” for the police force. Emphasizing the utilization of high-tech systems and artificial intelligence, the aim is to enhance crime detection and investigation capabilities for more efficient law enforcement.
Furthermore, an alert has been issued for December 31 to ensure safety and security during New Year celebrations. The public is urged to cooperate and maintain peace and order for a harmonious transition into the upcoming year.
