Concerns Raised by National Conference Leader Sajjad Shaheen Regarding Harassment of Kashmiris
On December 28, Banihal witnessed National Conference leader and MLA Sajjad Shaheen expressing deep concern over the increasing incidents of harassment faced by Kashmiris in various parts of the country. He described these actions as inhuman and unacceptable.
During the inauguration of an irrigation canal in Bankoot, Banihal, Shaheen highlighted the alarming rise in religious hatred across the nation, leading to targeted attacks on a marginalized community, particularly Kashmiris.
Shaheen emphasized that Kashmiris, including students, traders, and workers, are facing harassment in states outside Jammu and Kashmir, which is a cause for significant distress. He asserted that Kashmiris are an integral part of the nation and called on the Government of India, specifically the Union Home Minister and Defence Minister, to take immediate measures to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of Kashmiris nationwide.
Referring to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s condemnation of these incidents, Shaheen mentioned that the Chief Minister has written to various state Chief Ministers, urging them to protect Kashmiri youth, students, and traders residing in their respective states.
Shaheen advised Kashmiris living outside the Union Territory to be cautious and avoid areas where such incidents have been frequently reported. He clarified that while these incidents are limited to a few states, they have instilled fear among Kashmiris, making them feel insecure in their own country.
Furthermore, Shaheen called upon the political leadership of the country to take concrete steps to safeguard the people of Jammu and Kashmir in other states, emphasizing the need for ensuring their safety and integration within the national fabric.
