Exploring the Year 2025 in Jammu and Kashmir
Written by Dr. Rizwan Rumi
As the winter descended upon Jammu and Kashmir in 2025, the year unfolded with a complex narrative, refusing to fit neatly into a singular story of progress or regression.
Life in this region continued its rhythm, balancing the weight of the past with the ordinariness of daily existence.
Time in Jammu and Kashmir meanders, looping back to memories, revisiting old wounds, pausing for prayers, and then forging ahead.
Just like the rugged mountains that define this landscape, the people here embody resilience and adaptability.
The year commenced with the symphony of machines cutting through rocks and snow, symbolizing the state’s commitment to infrastructure development.
The Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link inched closer to completion, promising all-weather connectivity to the valley after years of anticipation.
Road projects like Bharatmala and PMGSY linked remote villages, bringing tangible benefits to the residents.
Improved transportation meant faster ambulance services, reduced travel times to hospitals, and enhanced connectivity for farmers and students.
Despite visible progress, challenges persisted, with delays in project execution and uneven development distribution.
The tourism sector provided a much-needed boost to the economy, attracting domestic visitors back to popular destinations like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, and Srinagar.
However, a violent incident in south Kashmir in April jolted the sense of security, leading to cancellations and renewed fears.
The need for constant vigilance and care for peace in the region became evident once again.
Security operations intensified in several districts, impacting civilian life and daily routines.
Natural calamities like cloudbursts and floods further tested the resilience of the people, underscoring the urgency of addressing climate concerns.
Administratively, the focus remained on welfare programs, healthcare, and agricultural support, with youth empowerment initiatives taking center stage.
Cultural events provided moments of respite, showcasing the region’s rich heritage and artistic vibrancy.
As 2025 draws to a close, Jammu and Kashmir stands at a crossroads, grappling with questions of political stability, economic prosperity, and social cohesion.
Despite the challenges, the spirit of resilience prevails, with people choosing to move forward with hope and determination.
