Revival of Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Sector
Srinagar- Following a period of fluctuations, the tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir has seen a resurgence, with a notable increase in bookings during November and December.
The Director of Tourism Kashmir, Syed Qamar Sajad, expressed optimism about a promising year ahead in 2026, as the tourism industry in the Valley shows signs of steady recovery.
According to Sajad, “Tourism in Kashmir is making a comeback. Bookings for November and December have shown improvement, indicating a gradual return to normalcy in the industry.”
The department has outlined an extensive promotional strategy, including organizing roadshows in major Indian cities and participating in international tourism exhibitions in Germany and Malaysia, with the goal of attracting visitors from Europe and East Asia.
Sajad emphasized the desire to showcase the hidden gems of the Valley to a global audience. The focus is on setting ambitious goals to foster the growth of the tourism sector in the region.
Recognizing the significant contributions of local communities, Sajad highlighted the need to ensure that stakeholders benefit from their longstanding efforts in developing the tourism industry.
Efforts are underway to upgrade destinations and infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on renovating government-owned assets that have been neglected for years.
Sajad stated, “We are enhancing and modernizing our tourist facilities, revamping infrastructure, and improving amenities. Once the refurbishment is complete, these assets will be managed by local youth, creating new employment opportunities.”
The Director outlined three key focus areas for 2026: infrastructure development, employment generation, and destination enhancement, with a commitment to enhancing service quality and ensuring visitor satisfaction.
